How To Bag The Best Bargains In The Sales

If you are chasing one particular piece you’ve been devoted to all season, you need to patrol the beginning of the sales with absolute vigilance’so you don’t miss out. I’ve already lost out on a Massimo Dutti pleated skirt I’ve been coveting since March, even though the sale only started two days ago! Otherwise, I think the best time to shop the sales is in the second and third weeks. The die-hard shoppers have gone home happy, the stores are much less crowded and the prices being to drop even further. The experience feels less frenzied, laid-back even, and because the area dedicated to discounted stock is smaller, the’stores?look?a lot?less like massive jumble sales, which many women find off-putting. Plus, it’s far more satisfying when you find something special in the latter days of the sales. And rest assured, there are always gems to be had towards the end.

I’m a big advocate of online shopping. The only thing I would say is that when shopping from the high street online, be sure to check the fabric composition of your chosen garment so you know exactly what you’re buying. Products are beautifully styled online and can often look more substantial or better quality that they, in fact, are. Otherwise, there’s nothing like bagging a bargain from the comfort of your own home.

Here are four pieces I’ve picked out from the SS17’sales so far.

I’m always looking for pieces in the summer sales that will serve me well in autumn and winter too, such as this sophisticated lace dress.

Lace midi dress, €99.95 (reduced from €150) at uterque.com

This tuxedo-style jumpsuit will never go out of style and work in any season depending on how you style it.

I’m not usually a wearer of mini skirts, but I might make an exception for this one by Carven. I’d wear?it over leather trousers in winter.

Printed silk-satin mini, Carven, €203 (reduced from €290) at net-a-porter.com

This cropped voluminous jacket is a really elegant and unique piece, and is an online exclusive at Massimo Dutti.
