&Daughter: Getting To Know One Of Ireland’s Most Promising Fashion Stars

Donegal native Buffy Reid, is one-half of the father/ daughter duo who started knitwear company &Daughter. Reid, now based in London, studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins before gaining experience in the industry working as a fashion publicist at Gap. Buffy talks us through what she enjoys doing during the month of January.

Shopping
If I have any time off when I’m in Paris, I’ll head to one of the Sunday street flea markets around the Bastille area. Last time we were there, I found a beautiful set of vintage champagne coupes and a pair of sketches from the 1920s that now hang in my living room. I’ll also try and get to the Grand Palais, where the new Louis Vuitton exhibition has just opened.

Visiting
Whenever I’m in Paris, I love to go to Chez Janou, above, which is a really old school French brasserie in Le Marais. It’s famous for its delicious baked moules and the best chocolate mousse you’ve ever eaten, which comes served in a giant bowl for sharing – dangerous. Afterwards, we always end up at La Perle, a bar nearby, which is nonchalantly Parisian in all the best ways and has lovely leather booths that make it hard to leave at the end of the evening.

Cooking
My New Year’s resolution is to learn to cook (properly), so I’ll be stocking up on new cookbooks. I love Lucy Boyd’s Kitchen Memories. Boyd is the head gardener at Petersham Nurseries as well as a chef, and her recipes are effortless, but delicious. I love reading about the way food and cooking has shaped her family’s history.

Prepping
January gets really busy for us as we start showing our AW16 &Daughter collection to international buyers and the press, so we’ll be prepping for that and then packing our bags for Paris, where we showcase.

Walking
I always start the new year with a long walk on Hampstead Heath on New Year’s Day, followed by lunch at The Holly Bush, which is the perfect London pub – ancient, 18th century, with lots of cosy rooms, log fires and amazing homemade sausage rolls, hollybushhampstead.co.uk.

Reading
I always take a book when I travel for work. I’m currently working my way through the Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante. It tells the story of two best friends growing up in Naples in the 1950s. Ferrante is a brilliant writer, and it’s hard not to devour these books all at once, but I’m trying to pace myself.

Watching
January is also about catching up on all the best films before the Oscars. I can’t wait to see Joy by David O Russell – Jennifer Lawrence (right) is meant to be amazing in it.
