After being largely closed for more than six years, the National Gallery of Ireland has finally reopened to the public. And it is spectacular to see it bigger and better than ever.

The gallery, most of which has been closed for a €30 million refurbishment by the Office of Public Works, has opened with a major international exhibition, Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting, in collaboration with the Musee du Louvre, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.

Luminaries from the art world in Ireland and abroad were treated to a first look at the exhibition but all eyes were as much on the gleaming architectural improvements as the art itself. Kudos to Heneghan Ping architects, the Board and the Office of Public Works.
