Why You’ll Never See Emily Blunt On Social Media

Why You’ll Never See Emily Blunt On Social Media

Thanks to the ever-growing popularity of social media, we can practically tell what celebrities are up to (almost) every hour of every day. On one hand, we love it. Getting a filtered glimpse into the amazing lives of our favourite celebrities is something we’ve all relished after a long slog at the office, but on the other, such openness leaves very little to the imagination. There’s no mystery, and a lack of alluring charm in many stars working today. For example, there was a time when certain public figures?were revered for their talent and status alone; column inches were made up of what we didn’t know about them.

There are some, however, who like to try to keep the latter momentum up. Stars who shy away from discussing their private lives for the betterment of themselves and their careers. One obvious way to do this is to stay away from social media, and this is exactly why actress Emily Blunt says she’ll never use it. Her job, as she sees it, is to persuade the public to think she is somebody else and the less we know about her, the easier this is to do.

“I’m like a dinosaur with [social media], No. 1. But it’s also not really an organic sort of fit for me,” she explained. “I can barely remember to text people back! I also feel that my job is to persuade people that I’m somebody else, so if I reveal too much, then I’m doing my job a disservice, in a way.”

It’s this mindset that is very much prevalent throughout her life, and this is crucial, she believes to maintaining a sense of normality beyond the lights of Hollywood.?”It’s about a balance. I really am in love with this job, but I’m also in love with my life outside of it. One of them very much feeds the other.” She is not completely free of tabloid press, though. Remember all that to-do over Michael Bubl? and her comments on US citizenship?

Her reasoning behind her digital absenteeism is refreshing, and she’s isn’t the first to proclaim her lack of interest in social media.

“I feel that my job is to persuade people that I’m somebody else, so if I reveal too much [via social media], then I’m doing my job a disservice.”

In a recent interview, fellow actress Kate Winslet shared her views on technology and more specifically her disdain for the digital age in which we live. She doesn’t allow her children to use apps, and, in particular, said she feels social media has a huge and negative impact on young women’s self-esteem.

?All they ever do is design themselves for people to like them. And what comes along with that? Eating disorders. And that makes my blood boil. And that is the reason we don’t have any social media in our house,? she said.

In the long run, such attitudes will work in their?favour, as the less we know, the more they will invariably pique our interest.
