Watch: Vanessa Hudgens Nails Her Grease: Live Solo Despite Tragic Weekend

If you were on any US website over the weekend, after the SAG Awards, there’s little chance you missed the coverage of Grease: Live, a televised production based on’the original Broadway play and beloved?film, the latter starring John Travolta and Olivia-Newton John.

Thanks to Fox’s live telecast of the classic, musical’millions were transported back to Rydell High, albeit with a new cast.?Stars Aaron Tveit (Danny), Vanessa Hudgens (Rizzo), Julianne Hough (Sandy) and Carly Rae Jepsen (Frenchy) took centre stage for the production, but it was High School Musical actress Hudgens that received due praise for nailing her emotional ‘There Are Worse Things I Could Do’ solo, after she suffered a personal tragedy, the day before the broadcast.

The 27-year-old revealed on Twitter that her dad passed away from cancer, but still decided to do the show, and dedicated her performance to her father, Greg Hudgens.

On the back of such of a devastating time, the audience would have been more than willing to forgive any slip ups, but Hudgens got it spot on. First of all, it?would be hard for anyone to follow in the footsteps of Stockard Channing, let alone having to belt out the tune following such news, so we think she did a sterling job.
