The Marker

1. L. Mulligan Grocer, Stoneybatter, Dublin 7

This northside go-to is a classic pub populated primarily by hipsters who come for the outrageously good grub as much as the incredible selection of craft beers. One of our favourite nights out is to top and tail a visit to The Lighthouse cinema in Smithfield with stops here.

2. The Dean, 33 Harcourt St, Dublin 2

Dublin’s newest luxury hotel channels Soho House with a rooftop bar that gives an eagle eye over the city centre and has outdoor fireplaces. The rainproof spaces inside are also great for congregating in big or small groups. Prime location.

Comfy and atmospheric, this is the place if you’re craving a cocktail. Ploughing through the drinks menu takes considerable time but we applaud the fact that the menu never tips over into the gimmicky ridiculousness of some drinkeries. For summer we love the Pimseng Sour and the Shrubbery with plum, mango and elderberry key notes.

When you’ve got to entertain a visitor from abroad who’s yearning to see an iconic pub, this is one of the safest defaults- what with the snugs, trad music and happy throng. Has ticked all the boxes since 1789.
