SAM BLAKE Little Bones (Twenty7, approx €16), out May 17

Sam Blake is the pen name of Vanessa Fox O’Loughlan, chair of Irish PEN and founder of The Inkwell Group and writing.ie. Originally from the UK, she lives in Wicklow. Her debut is the first in a crime fiction trilogy that introduces feisty Dublin garda Cathy Connolly.

EILÍS BARRETT Oasis (Gill Books, €14.99), out now

Technically a YA tome, this futuristic sci-fi echoes Margaret Atwood and yet was written by a 16-year-old from Galway. Expect great things from this young, brilliant writer.

LUCY CALDWELL Multitudes (Faber & Faber, approx €16), out May 5

Caldwell presents her debut story collection ahead of her appearance at the International Literature Festival Dublin, May 21-29. This year is a busy one for the Belfast-born writer, with a contribution to Granta 135: New Irish Writing, out April 21; a BBC radio drama in June; and her modern take on Chekhov’s Three Sisters premiering in Dublin in October.
