Dark Places: The New Gone Girl?

Still reeling from the deranged and brilliant thriller that was Gone Girl? If you feel your cultural consumption has been lacking some testy blonde protagonists, you’re in luck.

The first trailer for Dark Places, adapted from Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn’s novel, was released yesterday, and it’s already looking like it might replicate the earlier film’s success. The cast is pretty great with Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Christina Hendricks on the billing.

Theron takes on the leading role of Libby Day, a troubled character who saw her family murdered as a child. In the book, and movie, it is Libby’s initial testimony that jails her brother for the crime. Years later, Libby is contacted by a group who suspect her brother to be innocent.

Dark Places is released in France at the end of the month. There’s no word yet on an Irish release date, so fingers crossed we’re next.
