Our 5 Favourite Eurovision Moments

Our 5 Favourite Eurovision Moments

Conchita Wurst

Johnny Logan entered the competition twice as a vocalist, with two songs that should have soundtracked the most romantic unmade movie of the 1980s. What’s Another Year was his 1980 win, and Hold Me Now brought home the prize in 1987. Johnny won the competition again in 1992 as the composer of Why Me. Remember Linda Martin’s hair?

Conchita Wurst was the best. The winner of last year’s competition is a modern trailblazer. Not only did this Austrian restore the reputation of the contest with a stirring and powerful ballad, Rise Like A Phoenix, she also showed us that a bearded drag singer is the new normal, and that Europe is a better place for it.

Before Dana made accusations of car tire sabotage during the most perplexing Presidential election of our lifetimes, she was Little Miss Eurovision. Dana Rosemary Scallon won the 1970 contest with a cheerful ditty called All Kinds of Everything, a victory which launch her career in entertainment and politics, as well as Ireland’s status as a Eurovision force to be reckoned with.

Riverdance got their incredible start thanks to Eurovision after the Irish dancing troupe took to the stage in 1994 as an interval performance. The rest is dollar making history.

Who knew a Finnish heavy metal group and Dana would end up having something in common? The band’s performance at the 2006 Eurovision was one of the strangest and gripping victories in Eurovision history.
