Kirsten Dunst To Direct The Bell Jar

Kirsten Dunst is set to make her first feature-length directing debut with her take on Sylvia Plath’s classic 1963 novel ?The Bell Jar?.

Set in New York City in the 1950’s, the story follows Esther Greenwood; a college student who makes the leap to New York to work for a renowned magazine. While the fa?ade of the story appears to portray the typical Hollywood format, i.e. the protagonist venture’s off in search of her dreams, the central theme circulates around issues of mental health and depression; which is quite possibly why the book continues to be very popular today, 53 years after being published. Young Hollywood actress Dakota Fanning has been cast as Greenwood, as well as co-producer, and shooting is scheduled to being in 2017. Dunst has previously directed short works including Welcome, starring Winona Ryder, and Bastard starring Brian Geraghty, which was screened?at Tribeca and Cannes.
