Joan Rivers has died

Joan Rivers

In more incredibly upsetting news this month – following from the shocking sudden passing of Robin Williams – it’s been reported that Joan Rivers has died.

The revered comedian, actress and host of E!’s Fashion Police is said to have died following an incident in which she stopped breathing during throat surgery to mend her vocal chords. She was immediately rushed to hospital at the time, as per TMZ, where she remained in a critical condition under an induced coma, but sadly, doctors were unable to help.

At 81 years of age, Joan had shown no signs of slowing down in recent times and was as full of energy on her latest TV appearances as she was when she first burst onto the scene via The Tonight Show in 1965. Loved for her political incorrectness, her say-it-like-it-is attitude, her envelope pushing tendencies and her unique comic timing, this is an enormous loss to the world of comedy and the world of successful women.

She is survived by her daughter Melissa and her 13 year old grandson, Cooper, who lived with her in Malibu.

In a statement released by her daughter, as per NBC, Melissa said:

?”My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh… Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

She will be sorely missed. We’ll be back later with a fully considered obituary to reflect on this very tragic news.

What will you remember fondly about Joan Rivers?
