PERFORMING ART

Some of Ireland’s greatest paintings and pivotal historical moments are being brought to life in the National Gallery of Ireland on October 15. LEGACY: From Patrick to Pearse is a series of eight ten-minute plays, performed by Umbrella Theatre Company and inspired by paintings featured in the gallery’s autumn exhibition. AMAZING GRACE

Grace jacket

The second and final collection of tastemaker and creative director Grace Coddington’s work is a lavish, visual feast. Grace: The American Vogue Years (Phaidon, approx?163,?out now) focuses on the last 15 years. From Kate Moss lounging in Alexander McQueen and surrounded by Corgis to Keira Knightley feeding a Louis Vuitton-clad baby elephant, this is coffee table book heaven.

2015 Hong Ling-A Peak of Reds-Oil on Canvas-160x150cm 2015

The first exhibition in Ireland of revered Chinese landscape artist Hong Ling’s work opens at Dublin’s Chester Beatty Library on October 21 and runs until January 29. His art, informed by his studio location at the foothills of the Yellow Mountains of China’s Anhui Province, depicts the dramatic nature of his surrounding environs. The work, in both oils and inks, are primarily from private collections, cbl.ie.

Electronic pioneer JEANMICHEL JARRE brings his spectacular live show to the 3Arena on October 10, while horror king JOHN CARPENTER comes to Vicar Street on October 25 to perform some of his best-known film scores. Danish singer-songwriter AGNES OBEL releases Citizen of Glass, her enchanting third album, on October 21. She finishes her European tour in Dublin’s Vicar Street on December 1, agnesobel.com

ALL THAT JAZZ

The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival takes place October 28-31, with the full line-up yet to be confirmed at he time of press. A definite don’t miss is the double bill on October 29 of Blue Note artist Robert Glasper and his band, as well as the everpopular British jazz-funk quartet the James Taylor Quartet, who play The Everyman, guinnessjazzfestival.com
