Star Trek actor and onetime Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Chris Pine is winning our hearts over today with his dead-on comments about why Hollywood needs more female leads. (We knew he had to be sound after Jo interviewed him a few years ago.)
Pine told DuJour magazine that the whole masculinity and guns thing isn’t good for cinema. “Action is so synonymous with violence and revenge and eye-for-an-eye; the masculine footprint in the world is so violent and obviously it hasn’t really gotten us anywhere,” the 35-year-old said. “A woman at the forefront naturally leads with this compassion, and [is about] giving life instead of taking it… To have a strong woman who represents those qualities, I think we can start injecting this world with a little bit more of the ideology of compassion, love and positive moral strength rather than something destructive.”
Promising words from a man starring in some of the movie industry’s biggest franchises. In fact, his comments make perfect sense when you consider Pine’s next high-profile role is in the Wonder Woman movie opposite Israeli actress Gal Gadot. As Wonder Woman’s boyfriend. It’s rare for an actor of Pine’s stature to take on a ‘supporting’ role, and we’re so glad Pine is kickstarting the revolution. May the BAH – boyfriend and husband – role live long and prosper. We’ve had enough action movie WAGs.
