Cat Who Saved Young Boy Wins ?Hero Dog? Award

Cat Who Saved Young Boy Wins ?Hero Dog? Award

For the first time ever, a cat has been given a ‘Hero Award’ that is typically reserved for a dog. Tara the cat received a ?Hero Dog? award in Los Angeles after bravely saving her owner, six-year-old Jeremy, from a dog who attacked him. Could this story get any cuter?!

In May last year, Tara fought off a dog that attacked her young owner as he rode his bicycle in the driveway of his home. It was reported that the brave cat ?body-slammed? a chow-mix dog named Scrappy that lived next door after he lunged and latched onto Jeremy’s leg and began shaking it from side-to-side after dragging him off his bike. The dog was clearly no match for Tara’s body-slamming moves as the dog ran off, though Jeremy needed eight stitches afterwards. Tara chased the dog away and returned to her owner’s side.

This could have been so much worse if the brave cat hadn’t saved the day.

ICYMI: Cats Aren’t As Sly As People Think

?We were so impressed by Tara’s bravery and fast action that the selection committee decided that a cat this spectacular should be the National Hero Dog,? said Madeline Bernstein, president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles. The shelter’s 33rd annual award was presented to the family in downtown Los Angeles just yesterday.

?She is my hero!? Jeremy added. We can’t handle the cuteness of this whole thing.

Tara is now arguably the Internet’s most famous cat, as a video of the incident was caught and uploaded to YouTube. It has now been viewed over 24 million times. This is the first time in history that a cat has been given this particular award, but one particular change was made to the trophy; the word “Dog” was scratched out and the word “Cat” etched in. Purr-fect or what? (Sorry, couldn’t help it).

We’re delighted about the happy outcome of the story, and if this doesn’t cheer up your Saturday, we don’t know what will.

Cats rock.
