Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are hoping to adopt a Syrian child by the end of the summer, according to The Express. A business associate of the couple has been quoted as saying that the couple are keen adopt a child from the war-torn region. Especially since Angelina ?has sorted out her health issues, she and Brad believe the time is right to adopt another orphan from there, most likely a daughter.?
The news isn’t a huge surprise. Angelina has always been open about her plans for a large family and following her disclosures in recent months about her health adoption is the way forward for her and Brad to expand their brood.
The Hollywood couple are already parents to six children, three of whom are adopted. Zahara (10) is from Ethiopia, Maddox (13) is Cambodian, and Pax is 11-years-old and originally from Vietnam.
Last month Angelina, 39, underwent surgery to have her fallopian tubes and ovaries removed, after learning she was highly susceptible to developing ovarian cancer. In 2013, the director and actress revealed she had a preventative double mastectomy after tests had revealed she was a carrier of the BRCA1 gene, strongly associated with breast cancer.
In recent months, Angelina has been outspoken in her criticism about the treatment of the Syrian peoples and the ordeal they must suffer in refugee camps while their country is torn to shreds by an ongoing civil war. In her role as a special envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Jolie has visited Syrian refugee camps numerous times. She wrote an incredibly powerful essay earlier this year for The New York Times about the horrible uncertainty these displaced people live with:
?What do you say to a mother with tears streaming down her face who says her daughter is in the hands of the Islamic State, or ISIS, and that she wishes she were there, too? Even if she had to be raped and tortured, she says, it would be better than not being with her daughter.?
So far, the Syrian War has resulted in more than 200,00 Syrians losing their lives over a period of four years. 11 million people have been forced to leave their homes, with four million of these having fled Syria to refugee camps in neighbouring countries.
The source told the Express that the couple plan to finalise the adoption by the end of the summer.
