Angelina Jolie Tells Kids To Be ‘Different’

angelina jolie at nickelodeon kids choice awards

It has been a week since Angelina Jolie revealed she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in a bid to drastically reduce her risk of developing cancer, and the actress is still inspiring people around the world.

This time round, Jolie moved away from informing women about medical procedures that may save their lives. While accepting an award for Best Villain for her role in Maleficent at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards over the weekend, Jolie used the platform to deliver an inspiring speech that dared children to be different.

Rather than gush the usual plaudits and thank yous, Jolie told the audience:

?I want to say when I was little, like Maleficent, I was told that I was different?and I felt out of place, and too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in. And then one day I realized something, something I hope you all realize. Different is good.?

It’s a great message for children in today’s world, where the pressure to be like one’s peers can lead to damaging insecurity.

It was the humanitarian and director’s first public appearance since she announced the news of her surgery and Jolie looked incredible in a black Versace gown. Also in attendance with Jolie were two of her daughters, Zahara and Shiloh, who looked proud of their wonderful mother. Have a watch below. You’ll be grinning for the rest of the day. Especially when Angelina advises her fans to ?cause a little trouble, it’s good for you.?
