An Art History Degree Worth Of Books Are Now Available To Download For Free

2017 will be known as the year that saved and revived art appreciation.

Earlier this year, we found out that? The Metropolitan Museum?was releasing a?huge amount of priceless and iconic pieces of art into the public domain – and we lost our cool a bit. Now, The Guggenheim in New York has stepped up to the plate too and has released an art degrees worth of art books to download for free; including works from the greats like?Picasso, Kandinsky, Lichtenstein, Flavin, Klimt, and Rothko.

Imagine how dull our world would be without the works of Michaelangelo, Picasso, Monet, Dali, Caravaggio, and more recently Georgia O?Keeffe, Banksy, Damien Hirst,?Mary Cassatt to name very few.?The world without art really is just ?eh?, isn’t it?

Here’s a taste of what you can expect:

Roy Lichtenstein by Waldman, Diane; Lichtenstein, Roy, 1923-1997; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles, Calif.); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

Tre artisti italo-americani : Giorgio Cavallon, Costantino Nivola, Italo Scanga?by Cavallon, Giorgio, 1904-; Nivola, Costantino, 1911-1988; Scanga, Italo, 1932-; Licht, Fred, 1928-; Peggy Guggenheim Collection; Castello svevo (Bari, Italy)

Expressionism, a German intuition, 1905-1920?by Neugroschel, Joachim; Vogt, Paul; Keller, Horst; Urban, Martin; Dube, Wolf Dieter; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Mark Rothko, 1903-1970: A Retrospective by Rothko, Mark; Waldman, Diane Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; Paul Klee, 1879-1940: a retrospective exhibition by Klee, Paul; Grohmann, Will

Francis Bacon?by Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; Art Institute of Chicago

According to a?Vice report, other museums like the?Rijksmuseum,?The Getty,?The National Gallery of Art, and??The New York Public Library?have since released portions of their collections, meaning the greats like Rembrandt and Monet now have a platform to be discovered and loved by generations to come. The Met Museum is collaborating with global partners to enable greater access to the collection, but for now, the 375,000 + free pieces on offer should suffice.

Whether you’re a passionate art connoisseur, or simply have an interest in art, it’s literally all right here at your fingertips. Download books from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s internet archive to your heart’s content here.
