The season’s show-stopping trends, captivating cuts and vivacious colours – summer 2017 hair is anything but ordinary.

Compiled by AISLING O’GRADY.

Listen up, curly girls – it’s time to embrace the mane. Forget perfectly coiffed rolls and singed spirals and work with the hair’s natural kink.

Unlocking The Natural Curl

THE BASICS

Shampoo and condition with products such as the Curvaceous Curl range from Redken. When shampooing, don’t be too vigorous, as you can create more tangles, making it harder to comb through. When applying conditioner, massage through the mid-lengths and ends and leave on for three to ve minutes for maximum effect. Too often, people rinse conditioner off too quickly, and it therefore has no effect on hair – it’s a waste of product, and money.

HANDS OFF!

When prepping curly hair, less handling is best. As you are towel drying, try not to rub. Instead, pat dry and squeeze out any excess water. Apply a styling product the same way you would if it was conditioner – evenly, from the mid-lengths to ends.

MOISTURE-UP

You can leave conditioner on as a styling product, but to refresh hair throughout the day, fill a small spritz bottle with three parts water, one part conditioner. If hair becomes at or too frizzy, just a quick spritz and hair will feel revived. You can also use a damp face cloth – rub it on the hair from roots to ends to help the curl to re-energise itself.
