Trans-seasonal Beauty Fixes

It’s funny how quickly it happens: almost overnight, December’s glitters and golds start to look garish and gaudy come January. And yet, we’re not quite ready for the sugary pastels of spring. So what’s a girl to do? Keep things fresh and simple, but go for the glow, is our advice – and here’s how.

1. January skin is problematic: most of us are dehydrated after Christmas, which can lead to dullness, dry patches and blotchiness. No doubt we’re all busy making good lifestyle and skincare choices to address that – but in the meantime, thank god for cosmetics as a temporary fix.

With skin friendly ingredients, long-lasting coverage and a natural, skin-like finish, the By Terry Cover Expert Foundation is a triple threat to winter skin.  Suitable for all complexions, this is a genius product that, in just a few dabs, magically erases all tell-tale signs of the festive season. Hyaluronic acid contributes to the ‘hydra-plumping, comfortable feel’, and clever use of light-reflecting technology detracts from blotches and dark circles.

2.  Now’s the time to fake a little of that illusive ‘healthy glow’. The key is a good highlighting concealer, like YSL’s Touche Eclat, along with an illuminating powder or cream – browse some of our favourites here.

Short on time? For a great multi-tasker, try the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush range – with swirls of pigment mixed with highlighting powder, this delivers subtle, face-enlivening colour alongside a lit-from-within radiance.

3. For eyes, classic neutrals are universally flattering but can feel a little dated; keep it fresh with the metallic tones of the NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadows. The shades Himalia and Dionne offer bronzey/taupey goodness that will suit most colourings, can be used wet or dry and have great longevity; we’re talking a good eight hours wear.

4. Dried out winter lips need both colour and care, and Clarins is a master at both – the brand’s lip products are second to none. For a smooth and plumped up kisser, look to their Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector range; these gloss/balm hybrids are genuinely hydrating and comfortable to wear, in a range of soft, flattering shades. The lip creams will be joined on counter by a buttery soft balm version, as of next month.
