This Simple Hack Will Tell You If Short Hair Will Suit You

This Simple Hack Will Tell You If Short Hair Will Suit You

It’s the age-old question when it comes time to change up your hairstyle, which is: will short hair suit me? In a time when bobs and lobs are all the rage, it is completely normal to want to reach for those scissors and transform your look with a short and stylish do, but The Fear of not knowing whether this will suit you often holds many a woman back.

Thankfully, we’ve come across a little trick that’s designed to make the whole will-I or-won’t-I process that bit easier. It’s what is known as the 2.25-inch rule.

ICYMI: Are You Washing Your Hair Wong? This Trick Could Transform Your Locks

According to Elle, the magic measurement was discovered by hairstyle trendsetter and product innovator, John Frieda and “it’s all about the angles” says senior stylist at John Frieda Salons UK and international training director of Colour Wow, Giles Robinson.

“John studied faces and saw that the angle of the jaw bone determined whether or not someone would look best with short hair or long hair,” he explained. They say the result is a trusted, easy but exact measurement that indicates whether a face (any face) is suited to short or long hair.

To try it, position a pencil or pen under your chin horizontally and then place a ruler under your ear vertically. Take your measurement from the intersection of the pencil and ruler. Less than 2.25″ and this indicates’short hair would really suit you, and if it’s anything more, chances are long locks will be the most flattering choice for you. Face shape obviously plays a part here too, so remember to take into account your own.

Using Michelle Williams and Kim Kardashian is a good example:

This ‘rule’ isn’t obviously set in stone by any means whatsoever, and regardless of this, if you think you’re ready for short hair and want it, then go for it. But this is perhaps a nice starting point.
