The Ultimate Hair Trend of 2015

Move over ombré, wave buh-bye to balayage, there’s a new hair trend on the block and to be honest, we think it’s simply a fancy name for hair that looks as though you’ve had nothing done whatsoever but nevertheless… It’s called ecaille, which means tortoise shell in French, and it’s ALL the rage. Some might even say it’s about to go ‘mane-stream’… *tumbleweed*

This look offers natural, caramel tones that ever so slightly catch the light, as opposed to stark, bright ends that have been dip-dyed to death. Still though, this look remains darker at the roots, and a little lighter towards the end – the kind of hair you would have achieved naturally, frolicking in the sun as a kid. It’s particularly popular, like ombré, because it requires almost no maintenance, meaning the days of having your roots done every four to six weeks are long gone. Word on the street is you’d only need your colour done TWICE a year with this look.

The women of Paris were the first to label this natural look as something to ask for when at the salon, but we imagine it will be some time before ‘ecaille’ is mentioned on the price list.

For now, simply ask your colourist to darken your base, adding flecks of caramel throughout, as opposed to noticeable, chunky highlights. No zebra patterns on your T-Bar, no ends that appear to have been bathed in a bowl of bleach, and voila, you’ll look like Jessica Biel.
