Neon Lip Colours To Try This Summer

Neon Lip Colours To Try This Summer

Emma Stone

First up is Emma Watson’s tangerine pout…

The history of lipstick can be traced back to 5000 years ago when the women, and men, of Sumer crushed gemstones and then applied this valuable ‘dust? to their lips and eyes. The ancient Egyptians were also making some glossy lip colours but their ingredients of bromine and iodine ended up making beauty mavens very ill.

Thanks to a couple of millennia and science we’re over all these worries and the only risks we take are superficial ones. The last two years have seen neon shades dominate the beauty palettes of the adventurous and now that sun might be back we’re going to go fruity and possibly psychedelic by taking a cue from some of our favourite stars.

Emma Watson is not only our imaginary friend, but one of our key beauty inspirations. The cool Brit always marries her classic yet edgy wardrobe with something quirky – be it a diamant? ear cuff or a slick of some on-trend primary colour across her lips. We love this look from the Noah red carpet earlier this year. Get the look with Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Tesoro or Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm in Audacious.

Cameron Diaz’s hot pink is all Cameron. Fun, outgoing, very Southern California, moonlights as a surfer or something equally as cool. The Sex Tape star always goes with what suits her infectious personality on the red carpet and now we’re going to team a flirty LBD with either Bobbi Brown’s Sheer Lip Colour in Hot Raspberry or Pink Bonbon from Lanc’me’s Rouge in Love.

Is today a Rita Ora or a Lorde day? While it takes a certain soul to wear purple lips in the morning, it is a soul we want to be friends with. Lilac and purple tones work with pretty much all skin tones and if you’ve dyed your hair like Rita all the better! To really nail this look we think colour pigment central AKA MAC needs a visit. Their Up The Amp shade is pretty and lustrous while their Heroine – designed by Lorde herself – is definitely one for good-natured drama queens.
