These Are The Must-Have Make-up Products For S/S16

We’re more than ready to say adieu to last season’s make-up products?and embrace some new beauty booty for spring/summer 2016. “But, is a new season a valid excuse to buy more beauty products?” you ask. “If not now, then when?!” is our mantra. Thankfully, our Business of Beauty Best Make-up Artist nominees are on hand to tell us the?beauty buys that are a must-have for the (hopefully!) warmer days?ahead and they also’share tips on how best to apply them. Before you go on your next Boots run, make a note of the stash below:

“My favourite products for S/S16 are inspired by the top trends from the runways this season. There were lots of dramatic lashes, strong lips and loads of colour,” said make-up artist?Emma Farrell. Below are her favourites:

  • Make Up For Ever Rebellious Flower Spring 2016 Palette

“If you want to embrace the daring S/S16 trend of a bright eye, it helps to use an eyeshadow primer in a light shade as a base. This will ensure longevity and really make the colour stand out.”

  • L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Red in ‘Blake’s Red’

“To get the perfect red lip, make sure to keep your pout hydrated by regularly applying a moisturising lip balm and always use?a liner to prevent the lipstick bleeding.”

Next up,?Eilis Downey of Sugar Cubed favours products from MAC and?KOHL Cosmetics for S/S16:

  • KOHL Cosmetics Satin Glow Mineral Powder?

“Use after foundation and setting powder. Apply with a Fan Brush to high points of your face – cheekbones, brow bone, the centre of nose and cupid’s bow.”

  • MAC Strobe Cream?

“Use before foundation and setting powder. Apply with a Fan Brush. Alternatively, mix with foundation for a dewy look.”

Cara Macken from Brown Sugar is all about having the right tools to ensure flawless application:

  • Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curler

“So underrated and people often forget to use them. They transform your lashes before any product is even applied.”

  • NYX Liquid Illuminator

“‘Strobing’ is such a huge trend. My two personal favourites are MAC Strobe Cream and NYX Liquid Illuminator. Use it under, over or mixed in with your foundation. I also love putting it on my collarbone and down my shin bone for a glow.”

  • KOHL Cosmetics Eye Shadow Blending Brush

“It comes down to your tools when creating a smoky eye and it’s all about blending, so be sure to have a good soft blending brush.”

Kim O?Sullivan from the Dublin Make-up Academy is all about enhancing your best features with these essentials:

  • MAC Matchmaster Compact Foundation?

“This is a cushion liquid foundation?and is?literally invisible on the skin. It has a natural ‘matte without the flat ‘texture that is silky smooth and glides onto the face.”
  • Mac Lustre Drops?
“These magical drops give you dewy, glowing skin in an instant. This product is one my summer essentials. Works a dream mixed with strobe cream for extra?luminous skin on those no make-up days.?Best applied with fingertips over the area you wish to highlight.”
  • Estee Lauder Little Black Primer?

“This is?fantastic?for creating enviably long and full lashes; it also ensures your mascara will not budge. You can use it?alone as a tint to colour and lift bare lashes so they stay silky, but it also acts as a primer and boosts volume, lift, and length to allow mascara to look its best. It can also be used to set by brushing over mascara for a long-wearing, water-resistant topcoat that helps reduce smudging and flaking.”

“I prefer a quieter kind of beauty and love to enhance without intruding,” said MUA?Lyndsey Cavanagh of The Hive. ?”One of my favourite key trends this spring/summer is the ‘new nude’ look where the complexion is luminescent with high beam highlighting, this trend takes natural to the next level by letting skin shine through.” Here are the beauty buys she can’t be without:

  • Chantecaille Tinted Moisturiser

“This creates a beautifully dewy, moist and radiant base. Create a fresh and luminous complexion by applying a few drops, using your fingertips to dab onto the centre of your face and gently blend out towards your ears and hairline.”

  • Erborian BB Eye?

“I love to refine and perfect the eye area using ‘Erborian’ BB Eye, a smoothing eye cream fused with a balmy concealer producing a ‘baby skin’ effect from Korean Skin Therapy. It is seamless and moist; it never leads to the formation of dehydration lines around the eyes. ?Use a small amount along and around your eye area, ?gently dab with your fingertips or?buff for a diffused effect.”

  • Max Factor ‘False Lash Effect’ Mascara

“My cult classic, cannot cope without product would have to be ‘False Lash Effect’ mascara from Max Factor. ?The high level of buildability in this mascara enables you to press and hold it against lashes as you apply it, increasing the angle between your eye and the lash base. By increasing this angle, the visible length of your lashes is maximised for an eye-opening effect.”

“Anything shiny is great this summer,” said MUA Ken Boylan of Make Up/Play. He takes us through three of his favourites from his make-up range:

  • Ken Boylan BB Cream

KB 1

“A BB cream is amazing for the summer months. My own comes in four shades, so there one for all skin types. It contains Aloe vera and vitamin D and is nicely moisturising. I apply the BB cream as I would apply a foundation, using a foundation brush, just a little at a time and making sure everything is blended in well, to ensure no streak marks.”

  • Ken Boylan Sheer Glow Liquid Shimmer

“I have a liquid shimmer for the face and body called ‘Sheer Glo’ and it comes in three?wearable colours: Bronze Glo, Apricot Glo and the newest one called Aphrodite. Gently pat onto your cheeks, bridge of the nose and forehead to get that strobing effect everyone is talking about.”

Ken Boylan Eyeshadow Palette?

KB2

“I have a five-well?palette?that I like to call my ‘Naked’ palette that is ideal for S/S16. The trick to?using eye make-up is to keep it simple and layer the shadows one on top of another, always mixing your shimmers with your mattes, to ensure the?eye make-up stays put.”
