JLO natural hair

How wonderful it is that women are finding the confidence to speak up about the things that matter to them, to ditch the make-up if they damn well feel like it, share their #NoMakeUpSelfies for an amazing cause, and give the straighteners a break to let their natural locks loose.

Have you noticed a shift away from the constant need for perfection? In a world driven by social media, crippling anxieties can arise due to the pressure of feeling as though you have to present the absolute best version of yourself online. However, (thankfully), not only in the area of beauty, but we’re also noticing women who are beginning to find their true voice and use social media to highlight the fact that real life can be really difficult at times, and just because our Facebook profile pic may expose us in a more flattering light, in reality, we’re dealing with all sorts of ups and downs, both physically and emotionally. Take this girl’s (Bethany Townsend) recent Instagram post showing her colostomy bag. This post went viral as women around the world praised her for her bravery and her honesty.

Perhaps those most expected to portray an image of perfection at all times are those who frequent our TV screens, magazine covers, radio airwaves, and, well, the whole of the internet: celebrities.

What we’re quick to forget is that famous women are real women too, they get aches and pains like the rest of us, they have off days where they struggle to find the confidence to put one foot in front of the other, and, unlike us mere mortals, they’ve to deal with all of the regular stuff whilst firmly under the media’s harsh spotlight.

Today we’re giving props to JLO for sharing this beautiful Instagram post of what her hair looks like without all of the usual grooming. Doesn’t she look gorgeous? Does this inspire you, fellow curly-haired folk, to go natural?
