Melanie Morris goes hi-tech with the latest beauty launches.
RED ALERT
A red lip in summer can be daunting, but this year, it’s all about a punchy, velvety pucker. L?Or?al’s Infallible?Matte Max Lip Pen, €12.30, is nothing short of a gamechanger in terms of delivery and formula. Out with waxy, oily lipsticks and in with hi-tech, feather-light pigment powders, blended with skin-softening polymers. Delivery is new too; the sponge-tip pen allows for precise application and buildable, 3D colour. In six strong shades, offering eight-hour wear.
SPARKLING EYES
Who can resist a Bobbi Brown eye palette? About to celebrate 25 cracking years of empowering women to paint beautiful faces, Bobbi’s three limited edition Sunkissed Eye Palettes, €46 each, are perfect for on- or off-duty looks. They come in warm shades of copper, gold, rose and nude, in a mix of matte, shimmer and gorgeous glittery textures. Dial up a smouldering city eye, or opt for a dreamy, beachy look.
PATCH TEST
La Roche-Posay continues to steam ahead on sun smarts with the launch of the world’s first adhesive, flexible, stretchable skin sensor to easily monitor UV exposure. My UV Patch is a pilot programme available this year through selected Irish dermatologists. Adhere the micro-fine patch to skin, download the corresponding app, and become aware of your daily UV exposure, learning when you need to cover up, or retreat from glare. Each patch lasts approximately five days, changing colour as UV rises. The app also reminds the wearer to reapply sunscreen.
CLEAR DIFFERENCE
Simply put, hyaluronic acid is nature’s answer to marshmallow. A natural, water-loving substance, it cushions and hydrates the skin, with plumping, softening properties. So, a face serum such as Le Mieux (?120 at Neelu in Arnotts), where hyaluronic acid is the principal ingredient, is a winner in our books. Apply a few drops to cleansed skin morning and night, before moisturiser, and see and feel a visible difference within days.
