From Labyrinth to Knockan Stockan

We pick few of the zingers in this busy week of events

Anything that Wikipedia describes as a ‘musical fantasy adventure film? is our type of movie. Happenings have knocked it out of the park once more with their contribution to IMMA’s Summer Rising, with the classic whack-fest that is Labyrinth. Featuring David Bowie’s eyebrows and complete with Jim Henson puppets, this cult classic is perfect for an evening spent lolling in the IMMA gardens. For tickets see here

James Carney returns to the big screen with yet another musical love story. The success of Once both on screen and on Broadway, has allowed him to play with the big boys this time. Begin Again sees Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo form a quirky union grounded in music and New York. It’s getting good reviews and is supposedly just the right amount of sickly sweet. In the Lighthouse from tomorrow, for tickets see here.

Grassroots independent arts and music festival, Knockan Stockan, is back with its characteristically eclectic line-up that includes I Draw Slow, O Emperor, Come On Live Long. With a mini heat-wave on the horizon this weekend could be a dream spent by Blessington Lake. For tickets see here

IMMA’s Summer Rising continues to be the highlight of July with our oen BASH magazine styling things up thise weekend, artist Helio Oirtica’s exhibition still going strong, as well as a Cake Cafe pop-up on Saturday and the Summer Party that will wrap things up on Sunday with a party featuring Donal Dineen, Emmet Condon and David Kitt. For tickets see here

As the wheels and cogs that run the Tiger Fringe Festival start running, the good people behind all its fabulousness are offering a little sneak peek at some of the shows one might expect to see this year in Fringe Fuse this week. Priced at – 3 it’s not only an incredible deal, but also a lovely way of easing oneself into the upcoming theatre season. See here for more details
