Calvin Harris Tells Taylor Swift No ‘Heartbreak’ Songs

calvin harris and taylor swift

We love a good tabloid story, but there comes a time we have to call timeout and say “There is no way this can be true.” Today’s moment of myth crushing belongs to reports saying that the world’s most successful DJ, Mr Calvin Harris, has told Taylor Swift, Calvin’s girlfriend and incredibly talented singer-songwriter, that she’s banned from writing any songs about him or their relationship.

According to the Mirror, Calvin broached the topic with Taylor last week and had been nervous about the possibility of their relationship being immortalised in an award-winning song. Taylor’s songs tend to cover all the aspects of heartbreak, and she has allegedly drawn on relationships with John Mayer, Harry Styles and Jake Gyllenhaal for inspiration. Calvin told Taylor that he felt her writing about past lovers demeaned her. Considering Taylor has made a pretty penny and a record-breaking career from mining her heartbreak, we like to think she made this face when Calvin tried telling her what to do.According to the Mirror, Calvin broached the topic with Taylor last week and had been nervous about the possibility of their relationship being immortalised in an award-winning song. Also, Taylor Swift has an awful lot on her plate at the moment. Last week the beloved singer announced that her mother Andrea was diagnosed with cancer. Taylor shared the sad news on her Tumblr, writing “I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.” Taylor and Andrea enjoy a close relationship so we can imagine the anguish both are going through right now.

We highly doubt that a new boyfriend would issue a ‘warning’ at such a fraught personal time. Also, Calvin has reportedly told many industry insiders that he’s keen to collaborate musically with Taylor. Sticking his critical oar in is not exactly a good move. Hasn’t he seen the video for Blank Space?

Thank god Taylor has her work to distract her. This week she’s busy shooting the video for Bad Blood, a track from her acclaimed 1989 album. It’s a starry affair. Cara Delevingne continues her US campaign appearing in the video, with Swift also starring. Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Zendaya are also on the casting roster, so expect Strong Female Characters, a speciality of Swift’s. Bad Blood is the fourth video to be shot off the album. We’re still waiting for the masterpiece that is Out of the Woods to get the emotional rollercoaster of a short film that it deserves.
